Skytown Riot

Recently, my brother sent me some links to a local band named Skytown Riot. I thank my brother very much for that.
Skytown Riot is an amazing local rock back from Knoxville,Tennessee. After years of the four friends collaborating together, they decided to actually start a band. They decided forget all of the other projects that any of them had been associated with and make a fresh band with a new sound that nobody around town had heard before. Their debut album "Live" was recorded local too, in the Bijou theater in Knoxville. "Live" was released early this year. They have also released an EP titled "Highway Nightmare", an experiment to test the bands limits. The EP was all recorded in one day. Both "Live" and "Highway Nightmare" will soon be available on iTunes and other digital retailers. For the remainder of the year, the band is focusing on releasing a series of singles instead of an album. The first single "The Only Winter I Remember" will be available in a few weeks. On June 29th Skytown Riot will be playing in a battle of the bands at Cotten Eyed Joe's, they could really use some fans there to cheer them on and help win over the judges. You can check them out at the links below.

Everyone's Talking

I just got a message from Dani Rosenoer, from Everyone's Talking. Their new album "Dragonflies" is out now. You can get it for free or pay for it, which is even better. Give them some support and download the album, even if you don't pay for it. Spread the word if you like them. If you want it for free, just put zero in the price bar.

Shath

With me spending my days listening to GY!BE, God Is An Astronaut, Explosions In The Sky, and other similar post-rock artists; I was delighted when I listened to Shath, another post-rock artist. The music here is incredibly beautiful. The first time I heard " Losing Grip", the latest album from Shath, I was stunned. Shath's older music is more electronic than anything, but it does not come close to the greatness of the newest music. You can check it out at the link below and check out his other project Hornblow Junior.

RIBS

With influences including  The Deftones, Queens of The Stone Age, My Bloody Valentine, Nine Inch Nails, Muse, and Smashing Pumpkins(all of which I love), here comes RIBS . The band consists of Keith Freund(Guitar,Vocals), Blake Fusilier(Bass,Vocals), Justin Tolan (Guitar), and Chris Oquist(Drums). To be such a small band, the recording and the music is great. This stuff could really hold its own in the big and bad world of the radio. The debut EP "British Brains" is out now. You can get the full EP for just five dollars, or each track for one dollar each. Be sure to check them out in the links below.

When Power Stars Collide

After getting a copy of FL Studio, Jacob Rutherford started making trance music. He stuck with that for about eight months, until he discovered Aphex Twin. Then he decided to make breakcore and IDM. Over time, he found out that he liked to produce anything and everything he can. The result is the debut album "Hollow Armour" by When Power Stars Collide. You can download the full album at the link below and get a little more info about When Power Stars Collide. If you enjoy the album, be sure to donate some money.

Mike Procyshyn & the Comfort in Ghosts

I really thought I had heard of most of the genres of music that are out there. That is until I received a message from Mike, from Mike Procyshyn & the Comfort in Ghosts, talking about the band. He told me that there were too many influences in the band,so they just adopted the genre of Beard Rock. The influences including Nirvana, Queen, Wilco, Queen, Radiohead, Townes Van Zandt, and Conway Twitty. The influences blend together wonderfully to create some simply amazing music. They have a new EP out called simply " the houdini EP", and all of the tracks on here are great. You can check out the new EP at the links below, while there, you can check out a few other releases they have, including a free B-sides download. Oh, and I don't even have a beard, and I am loving this Beard Rock.

Jean-Paul De Roover

Since 2007, Jean-Paul De Roover has been pursuing a solo career. Jean-Paul is very unique in the way that he toys with musical form. His live shows are simply amazing; in the shows he builds the music from dead silence, then adds the layers of vocal harmonies, ambient rock, rhythmic tribal beats, folk, and tons of others. "Windows and Doors", Jean-Paul De Roover's first full-length album, is out now. The album also comes with a DVD that has nine live performance videos, two music videos, two concerts, a "Making of" featurette, and crazy packaging that folds out to be a three-dimensional house. Jean-Paul De Roover is amazing, and I am really hoping that he starts getting more recognition for the wonderful music he creates.

Victor Florence

After summoning his courage, Victor Florence began his solo career. His debut solo EP, was recorded entirely in a small dorm room with his close friend,Neil Pepi; who was responsible for all of the recording and production. Crammed in the tiny dorm room, praying to not get noise complaints, they started recording. What soon followed was an amazing EP from a very promising artist. There will be another EP, expected near the end of summer, and will have all original songs(no covers). At the link below, you can download his debut EP "Trapeze Artist" for free.

Up Is Down

For about a year now, Up Is Down has been making some pretty sweet tunes. With Nathan Stevenson on vocals/guitar, Alex B.P (Pottsy) on lead guitar, Ryan Dekleyn on drums, and Jackson Rakoczy on bass. They have a few videos of the up(or down) at the moment, and are recording a demo pretty soon. When you check their stuff out, be sure to watch the drum solo video; that stuff is top notch. I am pretty excited for upcoming releases from Up Is Down, hopefully an EP is in the works. Check out their great videos at the link below, and be sure to follow them on Facebook.

Vagus

In April of 2007, Vagus was formed in Topeka, Kansas. Vagus (odd name) consists of Zach Israel, Shane Lahman, Chaes Gray and Ricky Prato. Ricky and Zach met at a pet store, where they both worked and soon after that, that brought in the other members. Vagus is hard to tack down with a genre ( they don't even know) so, they are just fitted as a rock band. They have been booking shows every month and has a quickly growing large fan base. You can expect something big from Vagus, so keep a watch-out for them.

The Great Eastern

Progress is great. Especially for the post-rock group The Great Eastern. After fooling around for a few years, the band discovered Russian Circles, another instrumental post-rock group. They decided to become serious about their music after becoming inspired by the band and they delved into a completely new world of music. They draw heavily from Russian Circles, and their bassist is inspired by funk and ska, so you will hear some pretty sweet basslines in their songs also. Their EP " Medicine" has yet to be released due to some financial issues, and preparedness, but when they are ready they will release it, and I assure you, it will be great. They will be making many transformations as time passes, and you can expect a summer tour in 2011. Be on a look out for them, you can check them out at the link below.

Tom Ato

Around the age of 13, Thomas Thibus, began playing in various punk and cover bands. After learning bass, guitar, and drums, Thomas began his venture into electronic music. With a free copy of Frooty Loops in hand, he started off. For years he worked with house, trance and techno. At the age of 17, Thibus got his first set of turntables. After a while of making , Thibus grew tired of making mash-ups of different artists, he felt that there were no more that he wanted to work with. So, He then returned to electronic music and is still working in that genre under the moniker of Tom Ato. Ato is great at what he does, which is making some amazing music. You can check him out at his myspace or official site in the links below. On his official site you can download most of his songs including my favorite, the Megaman remix.

Mirage Island

What do you get when you cross a computer, piano, and a very musical Asian man? You get Mirage Island, an electronic solo with some super catchy beats. " The Monument ", Mirage Island's debut album, is out now for free download. The album is fairly short, but worthwhile. After listening, you will keep returning for more. With some pretty complex songs, Mirage Island needs to be more recognized. You can check it out at the sites below, and don't forget to download the debut album.

Knights

I have been shown something amazing. That thing is Knights, a hard/alternative rock band. As soon as I put on one of the first track, I fell in love. All of their songs are great so far, but one truly stood out to me and that was " Dragonfly". It starts off slow with mainly just vocals, then it all just kicks in at once for an amazing experience. The vocals are amazing here, and I just cannot get enough of their music. Keep a lookout for these guys to make it big, you can check them out on their official page at http://www.myspace.com/knightsofficial . Give them a serious listen.
